Why does the Uganda shilling weaken during certain seasons?

The shilling usually weakens due to:

  • High import demand during holidays or planting seasons
  • Reduced inflows from tourism during low seasons
  • Government or private sector buying dollars for big projects
  • Speculation during political or economic uncertainty
  • Agricultural export seasons—when crops are not being sold, dollar inflow slows

When more dollars leave the country than enter, the shilling loses value.
